From Refreshment to Labor again
Brethren, the break from our labours is now over and I trust that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer as we now concentrate on the resumption of Lodge activities—the meetings, the ritual, the initiation of new members and the fellowship of the brethren. In a very short time we will have the opportunity of attending and participating in each of the District Meetings which are scheduled in the October and November time frame—see the Grand Master’s Schedule for location and dates or your respective Lodge Notices.
The format of the meeting will be similar to that of last year with each of the Master’s or his designate making a 5-7 minute presentation on a subject of a Masonic Nature. The host lodge in each of the Districts will open lodge and receive the Grand Masters Suite. The District Deputy Grand Master will then conduct the District meeting by requesting each of the lodges to make their presentations followed by comments and a presentation from him. The Grand Master will then take over and will request greetings/ presentations from senior Grand Lodge Officers in attendance. This format worked well and appears to have generated interest in many of the lodges throughout the jurisdiction as evidenced by the changes which have occurred in the meetings.
Some of the lodges have allotted time in their meetings for talks of a Masonic nature, explanation of Masonic words, etc, and two districts have adjusted the format of the travelling gavel to focus more on the education side. These changes all assist in making the meetings more interesting for all attending.
I encourage everyone to attend the upcoming meeting in your district to support your Master , your Lodge and your fraternity. Your Master will be making a presentation on your behalf and that of your lodge but remember that there is only one district meeting each year and wouldn’t it be great to have the sidelines filled for this event. The audience on the sidelines are important and are significant contributors to the success of the meeting. Hope to see you there Brethren.
