R:W:Bro: Harold Planetta, Senior Grand Warden, heads the Masonic Renewal Committee for the Grand Lodge of New Brunswick. For more information on Renewal, please contact the Grand Secretary's Office or Brother Planetta. The titles in the margin are the beginning of what will eventually be a complete on-line plan for renewal in this Grand Jurisdiction. We trust you will find the articles useful.

"There is nothing more difficult to carry out, nor more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to handle than to initiate a new order of things. For the reformer has enemies in all those who would profit by the old order; and only lukewarm defenders in all those who would profit by the new order. This lukewarmness arising partly from their adversaries and partly from the incredulity of mankind, who do not truly believe in anything new until they have actual experience of it."
- Machiavelli

The aims and objectives of the Renewal Program is to combat those feelings of apathy and complacency within the Craft, and to install a fresh enthusiastic outlook and a new feeling of pride and interest in Masonry. Also to help and encourage it to grow and prosper in our time, a time when earth shattering events are shaking every organization, and for that matter every individual to their very foundation. It is our duty to ensure a well educated, morally strong and dedicated craft to leave to our future members.

We are a link in the Fraternal chain, a chain which binds us together from our humble beginnings to the great philanthropic organization we have become, and must continue to become in order to obtain personal growth and achieve our task of taking a good man and making him better thus making this world a little better place through Brotherly Love, Hope, and Peace.

The renewal committee will be concentrating on membership, the acquisition, through the assistance of the various pamphlets, such as friend to friend etc., as well as the new tools provided by the committee, such as the Friend to Friend video, in conjunction with a Fellowship note, which I highly recommend, not just for the candidate but also his spouse----a very important part of his involvement in the Lodge. We will be forwarding Information in Mostly Masonry, on the web page and through the various members of the committee who will be in the Lodges in the jurisdiction with the different modules dealing with the acquisition and processing of new members as well as putting forward a module on Attracting and Retaining new members.

We will be forwarding to the Suggestions on improving Fellowship within the Lodge, as well as ideas on communication. Ideas such as the buddy system, a way to help and educate our new Brethren as to what takes place in his Lodge, and information on how to help the new members to get involved in the Ritual work and get into the basic running of the Lodge , finances of the Lodge and so forth.

We will be putting forward a Module in February, on Community Involvement which will be forwarded to the Worshipful Master of each Lodge, entitled—99 Ways To Serve Your Community—There are certainly more than 99 ways, but this is a start. This is to assist the Lodges on Public Relations Projects within their respective Communities.

We are working on a Publicity Handbook to be used to assist the Lodges in gaining access to the Newspapers and Radio stations in order to help them increase awareness and understanding of what Masons are doing in their community. We do great work, just think about it! Let's advertise it in our local Newspapers. In St Stephen I see the Knights of Columbus, the Legion, Knights of Pythias, almost every organization you can think of, giving out awards, bursaries or something—You know we are doing the same things, but we seem to do it in secrecy. If we want new members as well as Community respect and awareness we've got to get on the ball—This handbook will help.

Also we all know that Family Involvement is premium to both expanding and maintaining our Fraternity. By the fall, we will be forwarding Information modules pertaining to Social Activities to involve the whole family as well as little educational tools we can use to inform the family members of the other aspects of the Fraternity, such as Eastern Star, Demolay, Rainbow Girls and our other concordant bodies.

This plan falls in line with the Grand Masters plan to improve our Fraternity and help it grow and prosper, and our plan as the Renewal Committee to meet and discuss, Analyze, Visualize, Plan and execute a program for the future. This is a small step in a big plan, but I feel it is a step in the right direction.
